The 4th JINR-CERN School on Information Technology «GRID and Advanced Information Systems» jointly organized by the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research and the European Organization for Nuclear Research was opened on 22 April 2013 in the International Conference Hall. JINR Vice-Director M.G. Itkis and Co-Chairman of the School Organizing Committee, JINR Director Advisor, CERN Honorary Member J. Ferguson presented reports on history of establishment of these scientific centers, their structure, fields of research, prospects and plans of activities in the nearest years.

MEPhI President B.N. Onykii welcomed participants of the School. He noted, in particular, that significant changes occur now not only in the fields of nuclear physics, but also in the fields of nuclear power industry; implementation of the west nuclear fuel cycle and study of laws of nature, which are being implemented at CERN give rise to a large variety of tasks.

For a week graduate students of Russian technical institutes and the University "Dubna" will attend lectures of leading scientists of JINR and CERN. Topics of lectures include: the Earned Value Management (EVM) system, which was developed at CERN for maintenance work on construction of the Large Hadron Collider and which is being introduced now at JINR for the NICA project and others.
