JINR-PNPI: a new level of cooperation17.07.2013
A meeting of the Presidential Council for Science and Education was held in the B.P.Konstantinov Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute (PNPI) of the National Research Centre "Kurchatov Institute". The meeting was devoted to issues of development of infrastructure of scientific research and performance evaluation of scientific organizations.
A new membership of the Council included PNPI Director, FLNP Scientific Leader RAS Corresponding Member V.L. Aksenov. V.L. Aksenov spoke about perspectives of the JINR-PNPI cooperation in his interview to a correspondent of the JINR weekly newspaper "Dubna: science, community, progress" Olga Tarantina.
JINR and PNPI are multi-field scientific centers and they traditionally collaborate in different fields of science. All neutron centers of our country and primarily JINR are invited to participate in big tasks which the PIK complex is faced with. It’s reasonably to distribute establishment on neutron centers. Discussion of joint plans was already started. So the workshop on construction of neutron detectors was held on 26 April in Dubna; all Russian neutron centers participated in the workshop. FLNP Director V.N.Shvetsov visited PNPI twice at our invitation: in February he visited the famous PNPI winter school where he acquainted the scientific programme, in May together with Head of the FLNP Department of the Complex of Spectrometers IBR-2M S.A. Kulikov he had detailed overview of the status of the WWR-M and PIK reactors. FLNP Chief Engineer A.V. Vinogradov visited PNPI at the beginning of June 2012. He acquainted with activities at the PIK reactor and presented a report at a PNPI seminar. Head of the PNPI Condensed Matter Department S.V. Grigoriev participated in the recent meeting of the JINR Programme Advisory Committee for Condensed Matter Physics.
A workshop on PNPI and the Institut Laue-Langevin (the European Center for Neoutron Reseach) was held in June in Gatchina; FLNP leading scientists A.M. balagurov, V.N. Shvetsov and A.I. Frank participated in the workshop.
Therefore an extensive cooperation in the fields of research and instrument engineering was outlined. And we also have a previous successful experience.
